Ignition Control Module Pigtail?
I just got a project car (87 IROC-Z). The guy I got it from dropped in a 350 ci from a late 70s vehicle. So, the wiring in the Camaro was a little different from the Ignition wiring. This guy shoved a 2-prong pigtail into the Ignition Control Module that is four prong. So, I went to the dealer and ordered a new pigtail. However, since the wiring was 2-prong (yes, two wires), I am guessing the pigtail I ordered for 4-prong will have four wires. Is there a way I can make this work? Or, should I get a different control module?
It’s a 350 – bored 40 over, heads ported and polished, Edelbrock intake, 650 cfm Carter Carb. Electronic Ignition. Coil tests good. ICM tested bad. Got a new one.
And no, I don’t like the looks of the current connector. The guy shoved the connection in, and the damn thing is worthless. I’m just troubleshooting right now. Hell, I only got the car yesterday.
I hate to ’say’ it this way, but YES, you CAN make it ‘WORK’! I don’t know what you expect it to DO!!! But, you CAN make it WORK!!!
I would suggest that you find out MUCH more, about the “ENGINE” (and what IT ‘requires’), and THEN figure out what I.C.M. you need!
No ‘disrespect’ meant, but from your ‘question’, it sounds like you don’t like the ‘LOOKS’ of the ‘connection!’..
Again, I suggest that you find-out MORE, about the ‘engine’! (he didn’t go through the effort of changing the engine just for ‘giggles and grins’… ) THEN, you will be able to decide what you NEED to make it RUN right! Control boxes have become alomst ‘dirt-cheap’ in ONE sense… but, they are STILL HIGH -DOLLAR if you want to RACE them!
LAST time, and I’ll ’shut-up!’ FIND-OUT about the ENGINE… otherwise… you might as well sit in the ‘bathroom’, and THINK about it!!!
